- Bonded Labour
A form of labour in which a person is forced to repay a debt by working for low or no wages, with the money being used to pay off the debt.
An organised refusal to deal with a person or group (such as a company, or a particular country) as a protest. A boycott could involve refusing to handle or buy goods, or attend a meeting, for example.
- British Colonies
As part of its empire, Britain ruled other territories overseas, known as colonies. During the 20th century, people in many of these countries which were mainly in South Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa and the Caribbean, fought for independence - the right to govern themselves as their own country.
